We are well and truly into the hallowed halls of October, and that means one thing, and one thing only - it’s cosy season.
It’s officially time to don your thickest knit jumper, settle down on the sofa with your fluffiest blanket, and pop your favourite comfort watch of the season on the telly.
We’ve collated here five of our top-watched Autumnal films/TV shows, and have taken on the responsibility of creating style guide/mood boards for you, based on the fashion of the characters.
Gilmore Girls (2003-2007)

If there is only one show that makes people think of Autumn, it simply has to be Gilmore Girls!
Many people (including me) deliberately re-watch this cosy show every single September/October, to wander back through the falling leaves of Stars Hollow, and get ourselves in the mood for the changing seasons.
The fashion in this show is particularly memorable, especially displayed by the two central characters - Lorelai and Rory.
This mother-daughter duo have completely distinct styles that set them apart from one another - Rory is a preppy, innocent beauty, usually found wearing a chunky knit jumper, a pair of jeans or a midi skirt, and a leather bag to pack all of her many, many books into.
Lorelai usually opts for a fun combination of a strong business woman, and a flirtatious 30-something-year-old. She often wears a lot of animal prints, tight jeans, pencil skirts and fun, early 2000s blouses/shirts.
I’ve poured through the products on our website, and have pulled a mix of clothes I think really match both women’s energies - all of these items are currently available to buy!
American Horror Story: Coven (2013)

The second show I’ve curated a look-book from, and certainly the spookiest, is American Horror Story: Coven.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the show, American Horror Story is an anthology series, with each of the seasons focusing on a new genre of horror, with new characters and storylines. The third season, Coven, is centered around a group of brilliantly feminine witches, who have gone down in infamy for their iconic fashion statements.
All About Audrey and Coven have one thing in common - we were both deeply inspired by Stevie Nicks. Stevie herself even features as a cameo character in the show!
Dressing to match the energy of Coven is very simple - head-to-toe black, sunglasses, bell sleeves, and a bad witch attitude. I have put together a mood board of pieces here from our catalogue that directly resemble looks worn in the show.
Without a doubt, the main stand-out piece here is our ‘Madonna Top in Storm Black’ - directly inspired by an item Stevie herself wore in the 70s. This dramatic, sheer, flowing wrap top is the perfect starting point for any haunting look.
Practical Magic (1998):

This film has certainly had a resurgence of popularity in the past few months, all due to the sequel to the original having been released this Autumn, with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman reprising their roles as these effortlessly cool sister-witches.
As with any late 90s/early 2000s movies, the styling here of the two leading ladies is absolutely iconic.
To dress like you’re straight out of the Owens house, the recipe is simple - a cute little crop top, a slinky low-waisted skirt, and maybe a sweet little cardigan to throw on top when it gets chillier.
I’ve chosen here a selection of both vintage pieces that we currently have for sale, and pieces we’ve curated ourselves - one such item being the ‘Emmylou Skirt in Tarragon Green and Black’. The tones of this skirt are absolutely perfect for heralding in the cooler months.
Whether you’re going to be heading to see Practical Magic 2 or not, I hope you can take a little bit of inspiration from this style guide going into October, regardless.
Little Women (2019):

This movie is one of my ultimate comfort watches of the season, with its golden vistas of New England countryside, and its themes of sisterhood and love spilling out of the screen.
It goes without saying that it’s obviously a challenge to dress exactly like the March sisters, as the film is set in 1860s America, but we can still take inspiration from certain silhouettes and prints worn at the time.
Our Antoinette corsets are a perfect example of this - fully boned cropped corsets hand-made from recycled vintage tapestry, all in an array of dreamy florals that look like they’re straight off the set of your favourite period drama.
Pair one with your biggest, flounciest skirt, and you’ll have Laurie chasing you down a hill at sunset, begging for your hand in marriage in no time.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003):

Another iconic record of late 90s fashion history, this TV show is drenched in that Y2K energy that has become oh-so-popular in the last decade.
Whether you’re going on a day out shopping with friends, or hunting down Vampires and/or demons, it’s an easy task to take inspiration from Buffy’s outfits.
Similar to the styling in Practical Magic, but with a little more edge, all you’re going to need to recreate these looks are some slinky crop tops, a low waisted skirt/jeans, and most importantly, a killer jacket.
I’ve displayed here one of our vintage pieces, the jacket in ‘Mustard Suede’, as it’s almost an identical match to one that Buffy herself wore. This beauty is one of a kind, so if you’re interested in giving her a home, you’ll have to be quick!
Until next time...
