The Importance Of Accessories

Have you ever put together what you thought would be a cute look, and end up feeling stuck, as though something is missing?

Accessorising often goes overlooked as a stage in outfit building, but it can be such a game changer in elevating a basic outfit to something truly special and cohesive.

Autumn is the perfect chance to layer accessories - as the weather gets chillier, new avenues are unlocked, like a hat or scarf to keep you warm, or some printed tights, or socks.

In the past month or so we’ve been so thrilled to bring you multiple drops of distinctive, unique accessories - from vintage bags, to ornate, intricately designed jewellery, to vintage leather belts.

Inspired by these beautiful new items, I’ve put together three look-books to inspire you to elevate your looks to new heights this Autumn/Winter.

Look One

For this first look, my starting point was our brand new ‘Blush Pink Tapestry’ vintage tote bag.

She is an absolute stunner, and is already turning the heads of multiple people in our office!

It’s made with various warm shades of dusky pink and sandy beige, and so I immediately thought to pair it with our beloved Fleetwood Coat in Songbird Pink, which shares the same tones.

I have then paired one of our Dolly Mini Dresses with a pair of vintage jeans we currently have for sale - a look Audrey herself often dons at this time of year.

Finally, let's accessorise to elevate the entire look.

To add in a pop of new colour and intrigue, I’ve put in here our new vintage belt in ‘Sky Blue Leather’, and some pieces of jewellery, like a Blue Topaz necklace to tie it all together.

One of our vintage lace scarves works perfectly here to add a touch of femininity and whim to the outfit.

Little scarves like this one are the perfect accessory for some added flair - they can be worn as a bandana in your hair, or a neck scarf, or be tied around your bag. The options are truly endless!

Look Two

I’ve chosen the stunning ‘Embossed Orchid Leather’ vintage bag. This beauty is an example of a leather bag that can be universally paired with so many things!

As I had an overwhelming amount of choice, the thing I decided to match this up with is an underrated favourite of mine from our catalogue - the Fleetwood Coat in Silver Springs Lilac.

In my opinion, this stunning coat didn’t get the hype it deserved when we released her last winter, and it blends perfectly with the vintage bag, effortlessly balancing each other's cool and warm tones out.

I suppose people may find it difficult to style purple, but once you start balancing out the cool shade of it with warm creams and browns, it becomes something very feminine and delicate.

That’s why I picked out one of our one-of-a-kind warm cream Ramona lace gowns to add a touch of girlishness.

Next: accessories! I’ve pulled in some more purple pieces from our catalogue in the form of a necklace and some delicate drop earrings, and another of our lace vintage scarves.

To add some warmth and to mesh well with the leather bag, I’ve included one of our new belts in ‘Cowboy Silver & Gold’, and a sierra wide brim hat to top things off.

Look Three

My final starting point was our brand new ‘Black Dahlia Leather’ vintage bag.

A black leather bag is the perfect staple for any look, especially when it’s one big enough to fit all you need for the office, or for a trip about town.

For a little witchy whim, I decided to pair this with a pop of red - one of our stunning vintage knit jumpers in ‘Orchard Red Argyle’. Throw this over one of our black Cordelia dresses, and it doubles as an 100% cotton maxi skirt!

To accessorise, I started with our new ‘Scarlet Leather’ belt to tie in the bold red colouring, and a bangle we have in our catalogue to match, too.

To bring in some more of that deep black tone, I added in some stunning drop earrings made from black onyx gemstones, and then tied things off with the most adorable feline pendant necklace.

I hope these looks have helped to inspire you to always remember the importance of accessories, and can be looked back upon as a tool when you’re struggling to finish off an outfit.

Until next time…
